AOTEAROA/NEW ZEALAND PROGRAMME
Purpose of Programme:
CIF exchange programmes are cultural, educational and professional opportunities. The programme combines practical and theoretical information about the social and cultural environment of the host country. Cross-cultural exchange is also included in the programmes since the participants come from many different countries.
Aotearoa/New Zealand Programme in 2012:
4 week programme
We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our fourth programme in 2012. Dates: Friday 26 October to Friday 23 November.
What the New Zealand Programme will include:
- Powhiri/Formal welcome: The powhiri is to formally welcome guests into the environment and to acknowledge the spirits of their ancestors which they bring with them. This joins the guests both physically and spiritually with the tangata whenua (people of the land) and allows for the sharing of knowledge to take place
- Orientation: 2-3 days of lectures about Aotearoa/New Zealand, which will include the following topics:
- Maori models of practice
- Innovative practice
- Social policy
- Treaty of Waitangi
- Health issues
- New Zealand History
- Rural Social Work
- New Zealand Society
- Visits to agencies: Aotearoa/New Zealand has a broad range of social service agencies. Most of the programme will be spent in Auckland. Visits will be organised according to the interests of participants. During part of the 4 weeks, participants will travel to either Taranaki or Ashburton for a period of a week or more. We have members living in these localities who will arrange visits and host families.
- Accommodation and Meals: All accommodation, meals and travel will be provided within the programme. We will accommodate participants in a rented house for the first weekend on arrival. On the Sunday, participants will transfer to their host families. You can google Taranaki, New Zealand and Ashburton, New Zealand for further information about these places. Poroporaki/Farewell and closing shared meal on the last day.
